🌈 Story Overview

Chapter 1 – Pale Green
Mr Turnip tree is an old story telling tree, situated in Silkstone common. The story is set in the early part of the 20th century before everyone had electricity. It begins with him telling a story to local children about Stephie (9), running in from the garden one day with excitement and asking mum if they could make a multi layered coloured candle.

Chapter 2 – Red
Stephie falls asleep after mum lit the candle in the window and feels that she's going down a red slide. She ends up at Volcano Junction where she meets a scruffy man and two boys turning wheels and opening valves deep underground.

Chapter 3 – White
After Stephie leaves the men and boys, she climbs up steep steps and meets a character called Ike Ice who she dances with, then she gets trapped inside a Fur whale and sees other white coloured animals.

Chapter 4 – Orange
After being ejected from the whale, Stephie lands on an orange bow in the sky that has become separated from a rainbow. She then walks down and steps onto an orange roof and tastes the first orange she's ever seen. After this she meets and sings with a most unusual lady called Mrs Hiccup, who lives in a wonky house, simply because she doesn't own a tape measure.

Chapter 5 – Yellow
After falling off a ladder whilst cleaning Mrs Hiccups windows, Stephie meets a huge yellow sand frog, goes to a bizarre fun fair and sings along with the frog as they skip and hop along towards a pond.

Chapter 6 – Green
Stephie steps out of a pond and meets a Cabbage Pig. Then she is taken away by a grumpy farmer and made to pick peas with other similar aged children. She manages to escape, just in time before the children manage to stop her.

Chapter 7 – Pale Blue
Stephie, who has now shrunk down in a hollow log, meets Ting the bluebell bell tester. She helps him do his fine bell tuning, then has to quickly run away from a huge stag beetle and hide up a bluebell stalk.

Chapter 8 – Purple
After feeling lost deep in the moors, Stephie meets the Time Weeper, who helps her on her way, but explains in detail what deep dream time actually is and Wen o'clock.

Chapter 9 – Black
After following her cat Squeak down into the cellar of an abandoned farmhouse, Stephie fumbles her way in the darkness, trying to catch her cat, but then falls back into an old chair as things begin to spin around.

Chapter 10 – Brown
Stephie lands on the moon after the chair she fell onto turned out to be a giant chocolate rocket cake. Just after she landed, the wallpaper characters from the inside surface of the rocket peel off and chase her.

🎶 The story is so musical, the author has already written songs for each colour dream sequence — making it an ideal candidate for a children’s musical production!
